Q: Name, age?

A: Mano Kalia Murthy, 36

Q: Education?

A: Masters in computer applications

Q: Why did you choose this study?

A: My journey to computer science wasn't straightforward. After lower secondary school, I enrolled in a civil engineering program, but fate (or maybe a wrong turn) led me to a high school for computer science. Though I initially tried civil engineering for a couple of months, I discovered a true passion for coding after joining the computer science in high school. This realization guided me to earn both a bachelor's and master's degree in computer science.

Q: Why did you apply for a job at DNB?

A: I used to work at DNB as an external consultant and really liked the people and the working culture. One of the main things that stood out to me was the very flat organization where you can easily approach anyone, which I liked much more compared to my previous employer. DNB is also one of the earlier organizations to start cloud migration, offering the opportunity to work with a wide variety of technologies (AWS, Azure, Java, .NET, Python, Go, and many more). When they offered me a permanent job, I accepted because of these positive aspects.

Q: What is the most exciting thing you have worked on at DNB?

A: At DNB, I had the chance to work on several exciting projects. My journey began with the Spare App, where we undertook the task of migrating it to the cloud. This project was a fantastic opportunity to deepen my understanding of cloud technologies. Following that, I worked on the Egen-Pensjonskonto project, which provided valuable insights into pension systems and tested my ability to handle tight deadlines and high-pressure situations. The highlight, however, was the Sbanken merger. It's rare to be part of a bank merger, and this project offered incredible learning opportunities. Working collaboratively across both banks and successfully delivering the project on time was an immensely satisfying experience. Witnessing the successful merger was truly memorable.

Q: Why should technologists apply for a job at DNB?

A: DNB provides great opportunities for career growth and work-life balance—I am a testament to this. I started as a Developer and have progressed to the role of Architect, and it doesn't matter where you come from. One of the great things about DNB is that you get to work with diverse technology stacks, which means you’re always learning something new. The varied challenges help you continuously grow and improve your skills. Plus, you’ll be surrounded by skilled colleagues who are great to collaborate with and learn from. It’s a fantastic place to enhance your knowledge and work on interesting projects with a talented team.

Q: What should one do to end up in the job you have?

A: Stay curious about new technologies and passionate about learning. Embrace new challenges and continually improve your skills. Hands-on experience is essential in any technical role—always explore, experiment with proofs of concept, and get your hands dirty.
