In this series, we spotlight our skilled tech team by asking about their education, why they chose DNB, and why others should too.

Our goal is to inspire more applications for tech subjects before the higher education deadline on April 15th. We also aim to give a glimpse into the tech work life at DNB.

This article introduces you to Hussam Alkhafaji, a Platform Security Engineer in our Tech and Services department. Get to know him better:

Q: Name, age:

A: My name is Hussam Alkhafaji, I'm 26 years old. I come from Yemen.

Q: Education?

A: I studied my BSc in computer science at the university of Nantes in France. During my Bachelor I went on an exchange year to Linnaeus University in Sweden. I've just graduated my double MSc in security and cloud computing (SECCLO) from NTNU, Norway and Aalto University, Finland.

Q: Why did you choose this study?

A: I've always been close to computers since I was a child. When I was doing computer science in my bachelors, I realised that I gravitated more towards security. I started studying security during my exchange year by taking extra courses and that made me go for a security related masters! I was fortunate to be accepted for an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree and that allowed me to get very practical as the European program has many industry connections.

Q: Why did you apply for a job at DNB?

A: The position I applied to at DNB fits my dream job description! I'm now a security engineer where I get to leverage my security skills, my cloud skills as well as my software engineering skills! I felt like the position is going to be a new challenge and that is the only way to grow further in one's career.

Q: What is the most exciting thing you have worked on at DNB?

A: Application security, cloud security and managing SaaS has been very exciting to work with especially with sensitive data and PII being a major threat point. There is a lot of cross-team collaboration when it comes to making sure our applications are robust. Working together with like-minded people has been very fun and rewarding.

Q: Why should technologists apply for a job at DNB?

A:  If you're looking for new challenges and are looking to learn a lot, you should definitely consider joining us. We use all types of technologies and are always looking into modernising our infrastructure. As a bonus, DNB is a household name in Norway! You'll get a lot of recognition working here if you are a foreigner.

Q: What should one do to end up in the job you have?

A: Be passionate, read a lot about the topics that interest you (within security or in tech), and practice with personal projects!

Norway needs more technologists!

Choose a tech subject by April 15th.
