It will be a bit scary in the beginning, everything will feel so new. New city, new home, new colleagues and friends, new workplace, new commute. But remember that there are a lot of things that won’t be new, you'll use the same backpack and clothes as before. You'll still make the same dinners as before, yes, you’ll get a steady income but that doesn't mean you're going to buy the fancy groceries overnight. You are still going to join events and happenings that feels very similar to when you were studying (yes, free food and drinks will still feel nice).

Still good days and bad days
Your working life isn't going to feel too different either. You will still have good days and bad days. It is still important to take proper breaks with coffee and energy drinks. Your tasks will feel a bit different, but at the same time not too different to be honest. However, the tasks will feel more important, I promise. You are actually helping to develop new stuff for the biggest bank in Norway, something that will affect many customers and businesses. It is both important and exciting.
New perspectives
You are going to meet so many interesting people. Some of them will be working at Greenhouse and are on a similar path as you. And as you are also joining a team with other people doing completely different things, you’ll also be introduced to new perspectives and knowledge only they can provide.
Game nights, go karting and dinners
There will be so many different opportunities presenting themselves through the year. There will be many events where you can learn about new and exciting tech and eat tapas. You can also learn about new coding languages while enjoying pizza with other aspiring women in the bank. There will be breakfast presentations with interesting topics, game nights, go karting and dinners. It will of course also be social gatherings and parties to attend, both big like the Christmas party and a summer festival filled with cool artists.

It will be ok
So even though you might feel overwhelmed, writing countless applications and perhaps getting fewer replies – let me tell you, it will be ok. Opportunities will arise. And when they do, it will be hard to make a choice. What is the right decision?
You will figure it all out eventually
It is totally fine that you don’t know exactly what you will do in your new first job, nobody expects you to know and none of the other “greenhousers” knows either. You will figure it all out eventually, there is no need to rush. Just enjoy the ride and have fun, it is something special about starting your first job and before you know it your first year is over and you look back at everything you did without actually realising it – maybe even writing a letter to you past self ;)
Good luck with writing your master’s thesis and job search, it will all work out!
